Take
Outrageous Actions for Amazing Results
What steps are
you taking each and every day towards your goals? Taking action each day,
even if it's only a small step is crucial to build momentum, maintain your
enthusiasm and make progress. When you put off doing required tasks they
begin to feel even bigger causing procrastination to really set in.
Most people naturally
sense of what needs to be done; it's when it comes to actually doing it
that they become stuck. Anything that you want to achieve can be broken
down into smaller more do-able steps. How do you eat an elephant? One bite
at a time!
Spending as little
as 15 minutes per day taking action on a particular goal adds up quickly
and keeps procrastination at bay. Although the steps may be small they
can still have a huge impact. Even if you're only going to do one thing
in a day on a particular goal, how about making it an outrageous step.
What do we mean by an outrageous step?
It's a step that
goes beyond the normal, takes you out of your box where your usual actions
occur and it's about being daring.
"Life is either
a daring adventure or nothing."
-- Helen Keller
An outrageous
action step is one that feels a real stretch for you personally. It may
be slightly uncomfortable and it challenges you in a healthy way. Taking
an outrageous step can be stimulating and refreshing because it awakens
the part of you that knows you're capable of more and enjoys being challenged.
An outrageous step builds confidence in yourself and your ability with
possibly amazing results.
When you challenge
yourself to be outrageous in your actions, you need to be feeling a certain
level of confidence. If your confidence isn't high enough, stick with a
small ordinary step that day to keep the momentum going. Protect yourself
from having your confidence knocked and stepping back to not continuing
with smaller action steps.
When your confidence
is feeling good one day and you're ready to experiment with this, ask yourself,
"What outrageous step am I willing to take today towards my dreams?" Listen
and see what comes up. Whatever the resulting action step that comes up,
there is likely to be some fear and resistance. This is normal and it's
your choice whether you allow the fear and resistance to stop you or not.
The difference
with an outrageous step isn't the amount that you challenge yourself to
do, it's about personally moving beyond your own comfort zones. So, instead
of say sending out 100 sales letters or making 100 cold calls, the outrageous
step may be identifying the one person to write to or call that feels a
challenge to your comfort zone and where you know in your heart that it's
likely to have the most impact. Rather than spending a lot more time with
your employees, perhaps the outrageous step is to listen to them fully
or challenging them to come up with their own solutions. Being outrageous
allows for personal growth, self-improvement, excitement and potentially
some very different and amazing results.
